Hello Everyone! My name is Sudhansu, and I work as a Postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Climate, Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences and the Discovery Partners Institute of the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. I have a background in Atmospheric Science, Geo-informatics, and Agricultural Engineering. My expertise in Climate Data Science enables me to drive tangible changes. Teaching is my passion, and I enjoy imparting knowledge in both traditional classroom settings and online resources. My research and teaching philosophies are based on the belief that science and technology education should be easily accessible to all, regardless of financial or cultural barriers.
Work
I use qualitative and quantitative, methods with fundamental remote sensing data to investigate longterm land use and land cover change. The long term changes and their variable impact on land-atmospheric interaction are studied using a numerical modeling framework to see their impact on weather and climate. Most of my previous works focused on urban-induced land use change and its impact during thunderstorms, UHI, heat waves, heavy precipitation, and urban flooding. I used mostly retrospective real-case simulations to quantify the impact while validating the output with various observational and satellite measurements. My current work is mostly focused on high-resolution future climate simulation, model data validation, and analysis. I also collaborate with research groups of similar interests specifically urban meteorology/climatology to study the adverse weather over cities.
Background
I received my Ph.D. from the NIT Rourkela, India, and my M. Tech. from the SRM University, Chennai, India, and my B.Tech. in Agricultural Engineering at the Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar. My commitment to continuous learning drives me to enhance my skills and knowledge, as reflected in my career growth, which landed me in my first postdoc at a prestigious national laboratory of CSIR-4PI, Bengaluru. I investigated the high-impact cloudburst events over the western Himalayan region under a mission mode project of govt. of India.
